I would like something a bit more modern for assemblies though. I've got a pretty good workflow right now with mechanical desktop for assembly modeling, Rhino for 3d surfacing and wireframe, and edgecam for toolpathing. Does Alibre atom do that, or does one need to step up to the next level. I want something that I can quickly and efficiently model up weldments, and other assemblies and generate a BOM. I don't think I'd be happy with mesh cam after years of being spoiled with commercial offerings, just form the few videos I watched, but it might be ok for certain things. I was curious about Alibre, as it's a cheap package, and the added cam is a good value, but have not got around to demoing it yet. I'm sure if I spent a lot more time with either package and altered the way I approached things, retraining my brain to do things the way the software wants, I would gel with it more. It was so infantile it was not worth the money.(Sorry I was on Catia,ProE,and SDRC at the time, LOL CAD EGO, young and dumb, Dang I remember Solidworks hitting the market, lol.) Ironcad has come along ways from what I can tell, and the price tag is in my wheel house.I've never been that big of a fan of fusion. I am looking at Ironcad, I remember when this system hit the market. Alibre Atom and FreeCAD not only provide the ability to produce DXF but also. So Solidwork honestly is overkill, and I am on an older version. CAD files and The 9 Best Thingverse Alternatives 1 I ve gotten into laser. Ive been trying to decide whether to purchase AD Expert or an F360 subscription. I do not surface model anymore, or large assemblies, just components, jigs-n-fixtures, product design, and re-design for manufacturing. My primary work is assisting small fab shops, machine shops, archery equipment manufactures. I don't want to dump 4k-5k on cad, then 2k-3k on a system. I have no problem purchasing another system(hardware). I use my Alibre Design Expert software daily, I have been able to successfully model everything I used to do with the more expensive rental CAD packages. To own and maintain Alibre Design Expert is a fraction of the cost of those rental packages. Organizations of 1 to 1000 choose Alibre for economical, powerful 3D engineering. Other than the normal players in the industry, I have no idea what is out there. For the past 11 years I have used Solidworks for my personal business, and have not been keeping up on the what's new in the cad world.
